In the materialistic culture, we live in. It is easy for materialism to enter our lives. No matter where we turn, the world tells us we need this or that and to be worthy we must have this or that. It is a poisoning which is affecting our lives and separating us from God. We all have struggled or are struggling with wanting what somebody else has maybe it is their car, job or even their lifestyle. This will eat away at our souls and can lead to anger, jealousy, depression also separates close friends, family and most important are focus is put on the wrong thing material items instead of God and are relationship with Him suffers. The bible teaches us about being content with what we have (Hebrews 13:5) and to leave behind earthly desires such as covetousness (Colossians 3:5) is also commands us not to covet (Exodus 20:17).
By being rich or having material items do not mean you are materialistic or have desire or love for such things, but if you do desire and love such things it is Ideology (1 Timothy 6:9, 10), if we love money and material objects and are hearts our set on such things does it provide everlasting joy or love you? The answer is no. Money and material objects can be taken away from us in just a split second. So why spend time on such things. Let us turn away from the world view and focus on what’s important, which is God and put our treasures in places that will last and worship God (Matthew 6:19-24). Are lives will be much more joyful and we will not be slaves to such things any more.
Remember that this is all something we all struggle with so let us encourage, and love one another (Romans 12:9-21)
Prayer:
Lord you are awesome and the one true provider of all my needs. Open up my Heart to see were my focus is and help me keep the Focus on you. Help me and all the others who struggle with materialism thank you Lord for all you have given to me In the name of Jesus, Amen
